Rental Properties and Pets

Hi all,

The amount of times I have come across someone whom has been persecuted as a pet owner, is amazing!Rentals and Pets

When it comes to renting and having an animal, landlords or real-estate agencies have a one mind set dogma over not allowing pets in rentals. Why?

As the Foster Care Coordinator and receiving surrendered animals, the majority of reasons why animals need to be surrendered is due to moving home and the pets can not go with their owners. Many times renters hide the fact they have an animal and when caught out by the landlord are presented a difficult choice to quickly surrender their pet or live homeless.

Most landlords or real-estates can not explain when asked the reason why you can not have a pet and if they do, they say because of damage. Well this is a very lame excuse! Why children are much more destructive to a home than a dog. Any how, you would have to fix, repair and pay for any destruction to the rental no matter the reason or cause, so why say no pets? What could happen? Dig a hole?

I have had enough! As a loving dog owner and hearing the difficulties people are experiencing I would like to help. Thus I have asked Head Office on their stand with this issue and they have shared their collected resources to help empower the renters when faced with choosing their pet over a place to live.

If you are in a difficult position choosing over your pet or a place to live. Read our page of resources found here http://www.alburyrspca.com/content/rental-properties-and-pets

I hope this helps.

I agree.

I agree. We all have folders with our dogs details in them. We all could include a CV aswell. Attempt to collect endorsment from those that approve of your dogs.

I love the idea of a "pet

I love the idea of a "pet resume" even if you aren't renting.

It could be very useful for boarding kennels or when using a new vet. :)
