Adoption Centre
Welcome to our Adoption Centre where you can view our current animals available for adoption.
Before taking on the responsibility of adopting an animal, there are some very important things that you need to consider. Albury RSPCA strongly recommends studying up on your responsibility of pet ownership. Below are some links for further reading.
Successful adoptions are made when you choose a dog that matches you.
To find a dog that will suit you, read the descriptions of the three family types below - Blue, Green or Orange.
Once you have identified your family type, look for those colours on the animals description.
Dogs for BLUE families
Blue families are often first time dog owners. They have limited time or ability to train and exercise their dog, and want a low maintenance relationship. They may or may not have young children.
Dogs for GREEN families
Green families are happy to live with dogs that like a bit of action, but also like to relax and chill out with their dog. They are amenable to putting in some training and extra time in the early partnership to establish the household rules. They enjoy getting out each day taking their dog for walks.
Dogs for ORANGE families
Orange families have a passion for dogs - they could be dog trainers or are dog training enthusiasts with a library of dog books they read. They have enough time to enjoy daily walks, games and training with their dog. They put their dog to work via mental stimulation when left home alone for long periods.
What do you get from Adopting?
1 - You are saving a life. If it was not for people like yourself, then the animal you adopt would not have much of a chance in life.
The above is the biggest and most important benefit. However, some other benefits are;-
All RSPCA animals are given the 'best start' when found their new home. A 'Best Start' covers;-
* Vet Check,
* Behavioural Assessment,
* Perfect Matched,
* Support from Foster Carer with Animals History,
* Desexing (Normally would cost approx $300),
* Vaccinated (Normally would cost approx $150),
* National Microchip,
* Heartworm,
* Gastro Wormed,
* Collar,
* Lead,
* Info Pack with Ownership Papers Plus,
* 7 day cooling off period.
* Welcome to attend any of many Albury RSPCA events, including the yearly 'Thank you day'. A free BBQ for Adoption Parents and Foster Carers as a way to say thank you.
Potential owners need to understand the asking fee of $340 does not cover the on-going cost associated to operate the Albury RSPCA Branch. The fee only helps a little and contributes to maximize the amount of animals we can help save.
Potential owners also need to weight up the on-going costs of pet ownership. It is estimated a budget of $1200 per year per dog is a good approximate.
"If a potential owner believes the asking fee of $340 is too high, than my recommendation is, that pet ownership is not for them and they should look into cheaper interests - Lord knows, we do not need another animal being surrendered due to not being able to afford it."
The Adoption Process
1. From our web site see which animals that may suit your lifestyle. Consider on going costs and time.
2. Phone the Foster Number 0447367837 and give your name, phone number and which animal.
3. The Foster Carer who is fostering the animal will phone you to explain all about the animal. The good’s and the bad's so you can have a well informed decision.
4. Arrange a play date to meet. Bring along the whole family including other animals to ensure all get along.
5. The Foster Carer will provide you an Adoption Form. Take home the Adoption Form to read. If you wish to go ahead with the adoption than phone the Foster Number 0447367837.
6. We may require to visit your home for a premise inspection.
7. When Papers and Payment are finalised the Foster Carer will arrange a handover time.
Please note:-
- We can not reserve animals nor place numbers on the animals.
- First in with a best rehoming match and we focus on the animals interest over any persons interest.
- It is all about the animals.
- We do not allow impulse buying, you will need to sleep on it.
- We do not offer any guarantee you will have first choice to adopt the animal.
- If you have kids visiting the foster animal, please explain to them you are only looking at the moment and that animal might not end up being the new family member.
- RSPCA does not adopt dogs to become Guard Dogs.
- RSPCA does not adopt dogs that will be chained or tethered.
- RSPCA does not adopt dogs for hunting of other animals.
Please remember that pets are for life.
If you are thinking of getting a pet as a gift for someone, please have approval from the intended owner beforehand. Please read our Adoption Information and FAQ page to help you make the best choice possible.
